North Tyneside Council and North Tyneside Councils Mayor, Nora Redfearn, has decided , against the wishes of the residents, to have any consultation to demolish in November 2014 the famous Boardwalk Cafe. Over 2,000 residents have signed a petition to keep Whitley Bay’s only cafe on the the beach… but the wishes of a large number of Whitley Bay Folf appears to have fallen on deaf ears. Bizarely, North Tynesides Mayor has promised has rather disingenuousley promised ‘Vigorous Consultation’ over the Foreshore re development… that is after she has demolished this cafe WITHOUT ANY CONSULTATION of the electorate. Interestingly enough, this decision was made to demolish a week after it asked for expressions of interest in the old delpronisesoWhtiley Bay has had a cafe on Watts Slope in Whitley Brelict building ‘The Spanish City’ once an amusement park. A weed covered shell of a building that has lain empty for around 20 years…. and swallowed millions in restoration work…For the past 149 years thete has been a cafe on this site with unrivalled views of the famous Whitley Bay Beaches. North Tyneside Council who have spent millions over the last 20 year with the promise of finally refurbishing the famous Spanish City building, claims that the Boardwalk cafe is to be demolished to improve the view. What an insult, the view from this famous cafe in Whitley Bay is arguably one if the finest views on the North East Coast, of St Mary’s Lighthouse and wonderful beaches.
Instead of North Tyneside Council wasting even more money on the crumbling Spanish CIty, what finer inspirational building could you have for an artists colony? A Yoga Retreat? A Yoga and Health Food Centre.
Use your imagination North Tyneside Council, STOP DESTROYING OUR HERITAGE… SAVE THE BOARDWALK CAFÉ
