St Mary’s Lighthouse, Whitley Bay as high tide gently fades away, the lighthouse , the jogger, the cyclist and the car, all braving the waves on the causeway to reach the island. Cut off at high tide for four hours, as the causeway once more is exposed, there is a strange yearning to walk cycle or drive through the water. Enjoy this reflective look at St Mary’s Island as the tide gently recedes on a cold November morning , exposing the rock pools and once again the island is connected to Whitley Bay again

St Mary’s Lighthouse, the famous landmark in Whitley Bay, St Mary’s Lighthouse was built on a small rocky island to warn shipping of the treacherous rocks, and connected by a short causeway
The Lighthouse, was built in 1898 to working until 1984 .The Lighthouse and Lighthouse keepers’ cottages are now a visitor centre.
