Unfortunately, just seconds after the Mayor promised a ‘Vigorous Consultation ‘ before any development of the Promenade… Councillors refused to discuss the appeal not to demolish the Boardwalk Cafe. Whitley Bay has had a cafe on Watts Slope in Whitley Bay for the past 149 years with unrivalled views of the famous Whitley Bay Beaches. North Tyneside Council who have spent millions over the last 20 year with the promise of finally refurbishing the famous Spanish City building, claims that the Boardwalk cafe is to be demolished to improve the view. What an insult, the view from this famous cafe in Whitley Bay is arguably one if the finest views on the North East Coast, of St Mary’s Lighthouse and wonderful beaches.
